National Seminar on Value-based Education at DSVV

A national seminar on value-based education was held in DSVV on 3rd and 4th October 2009. Representatives from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Delhi, Kerala, Panjab, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh participated in the event. Around 150 research papers were presented at the seminar and a manifesto on value-based education was formulated through a common consensus.

During the closing ceremony of the Seminar, Shri K C Sudarshan, the former Director of Rashtriya Svayam Sevak Sangh said, "Only an empathetic teacher can mould an excellent student, an honest man, a great human being. Before we can make good students, we need to make good teachers. It is the greatest need of these days to speed up the process of making good teachers to go along with making good students." He was addressing the teachers and researchers of DSVV as well as the scholars who came from different areas of India. He referred to the quotation by the guardian of Gayatri Pariwar Pt. Shriram Sharma Aacharya—"God is nothing but the sum-total of all virtues" and went on to say that virtuous people working together can make something great or something new happen. Shri Sudarshan praised Chancellor Dr. Pranav Pandya for developing a public university like DSVV. In his thank-giving speech, the Registrar of DSVV Dr R P Karmayogi described the teachers as invaluable treasure of nation and said that imbibing a sense of frugality and empathy in students alone would serve to establish the value-based education as well as help solving many problems in society.
